Check Electrical System

   Check that no warning lamps on the diesel engine control panel (A) are lit.

   Check the functionality of all work lights (B).

   Check that each emergency stop (C) stops the engine when activated. Before checking the next emergency stop, the previous emergency stop must be reset.

   Check for damage, unwinding, wear, and corrosion on the winch wire rope (D).

   Check for damage, cracks, wear, and attachment of the hook (E).

Check Battery

   Check electrolyte level in batteries (A).

Battery Charging

The battery is normally charged by the alternator and also when the main power supply of the machine is on. If the battery is fully discharged for some reason, it must be recharged using a battery charger. Cell plugs must be loosened and left in the holes during charging. Batteries contain corrosive fluid. Always turn off the charge current before disconnecting the clips. If the density has not risen noticeably despite some hours of charging, the battery is probably expended. Rapid charging, when carried out correctly, does not damage the battery. Rapid charging must rarely be undertaken and is not recommended for old batteries. Repeated dischargings for long periods impair the service life of the battery. Avoid, for example, leaving the lights on while the engine is stationary. Discharging with high current is not normally harmful.

Charge the Battery Using External 12-V Charger

Gas that is formed in the battery during charging and discharging is explosive which can cause serious personal injury and property damage.

1. Avoid open flames and sparks.

2. Make sure that the ventilation is good.

3. Disconnect the negative terminal first, and connect it last.

4. Disconnect the fire suppression system.

5. Use protective safety glasses.

6. Use protective gloves.

Precondition

• The battery isolation switch is turned off.

   Disconnect the cable between chassis ground and the negative terminal on battery (A).
2. •

   Disconnect the jumper lead between the negative terminal on battery (G1) and the positive terminal on battery (A).
3. •

   Connect the battery chargers positive cable to the positive terminal on battery (A).
4. •
   4.
   Connect the battery chargers negative cable to the negative terminal on battery (A).
5. •
   5.
   Start the battery charger.
6. •
   6.
   Turn off the battery charger when battery (A) is charged.
7. •
   7.
   Disconnect the battery chargers negative cable from the negative terminal on battery (A).
8. •
   8.
   Disconnect the battery chargers positive cable from the positive terminal on battery (A).
9. •
   9.
   Connect the battery chargers positive cable to the positive terminal on battery (G1).
10. •
    10.
    Connect the battery chargers negative cable to the negative terminal on battery (G1).

    Start the battery charger.

    Turn off the battery charger when battery (G1) is charged.
13. •

    Disconnect the battery chargers negative cable from the negative terminal on battery (G1).

    Disconnect the battery chargers positive cable from the positive terminal on battery (G1).

    Connect the jumper lead between the negative terminal on battery (G1) and the positive terminal on battery (A).

    Connect the cable between chassis ground and the negative terminal on battery (A).

    Turn on the battery isolation switch.

Start with Auxiliary Battery

There is a risk of personal injury if a charged battery is connected to a discharged battery.

1. Use a well ventilated area.

2. Fire extinguisher must be close at hand.

3. Use protective safety glasses.

4. Use protective gloves.

Precondition

• The RCS system on the control system panel is turned off.

• The fire suppression system is disconnected.

   Check that the auxiliary batteries (A) have the same voltage as the chassis battery (G1).
2. •
   2.
   Connect the positive terminal of the auxiliary batteries (A) to the positive terminal of the chassis battery (G1).
3. •
   3.
   Connect the negative terminal of the auxiliary batteries (A) to ground on the chassis.

   NOTE

   Do not connect the negative terminal of the auxiliary batteries (A) to the chassis battery (G1) negative terminal.

   Disconnect the cable from the chassis ground when the engine starts.
5. •
   5.
   Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal on the auxiliary batteries (A).
6. •
   6.
   Disconnect the cable between the positive terminal of the chassis battery (G1) and the auxiliary batteries (A).

Check Connection Blocks

   Check tightening and corrosion on the connection blocks.
