Safety Issues During Remote Operation

Operate Remote Machines in Adverse Weather and Extreme Environments

WARNING

Risk of Obscured View Due to Adverse Weather Conditions

An obscured view from the remote machine due to adverse weather can result in death or serious injury.

  1. Do not operate a remote machine from the Office TeleREMOTE in adverse weather such as fog, heavy snow, or rain.

WARNING

Risk of Machine Slipping or Skidding on Ice, Mud, or Snow

The remote machine can slip or skid on ice, mud, or snow, resulting in death or serious injury.

  1. Do not operate a remote machine from the Office TeleREMOTE under conditions where the remote machine can slide on ice, mud, or snow.

NOTE

The Office TeleREMOTE must be located in an area which is suitable for sensitive, electronic equipment.

Operate Remote Machines in Poor Lighting Conditions or During Hours of Darkness

NOTE

  • Use extra external lighting on the drilling bench during night operations.

  • Do not operate a remote machine if bad light or poor visibility is obscuring the view over the work area.

During night or periods of low light or poor visibility, make sure that the work area is sufficiently lit. Check that the lights on the remote machine are in good working order and switched on when necessary. Bring in extra lighting if the lights attached to the remote machine are not sufficient for safe operation.

An obscured view of the work area can result in serious injury or death.

  1. Make sure that there is a clear view over the remote machines surrounding work area before running them from the operator station.

The operator of the operator station must have a clear view of the work area. Do not operate the remote machine if the operator station screens or remote machine cameras are not functioning.

Security Issues When Operating a Remote Machines

WARNING

Risk of Unintentional Movement of Remote Machines

Moving a remote machine unintentionally can cause serious injury or death.

  1. Turn off the operator station before cleaning and maintenance.

  2. Do not leave the operator station unattended when it is powered-up and has remote machines communicating with it.

Lock Office TeleREMOTE Location

The Office TeleREMOTE must be placed in a location which can be locked to avoid unauthorized use. The customer must make sure that the location of the Office TeleREMOTE is locked when it is not in use.

Lock Remote Machine Placed in Remote Mode

Lock the cab of the remote machine once it has been placed in REMOTE mode. Unauthorized personnel must not be able to enter the cab and control the remote machine when it is under the control of the Office TeleREMOTE.

Dirt or Debris on Camera Lens Obscures View

A dirty camera lens can obscure the view for the operator and lead to serious injury or death.

  1. Keep the camera lenses clean from dirt and debris.

Always check on the condition of each camera before commencing remote operation of a machine. If necessary, clean camera lenses in an appropriate manner. Use a clean, lint-free cloth that is designed for cleaning optical equipment. A camera lens cleaning solution must also be used.
