Testing the Dust Collector Operation

NOTE

Additional maintenance tasks may be necessary on the machine. If multiple maintenance tasks are being done at the same time, make sure that each component can be safely tested before proceeding.

NOTE

The machine must be isolated when doing any repairs or adjustments during testing.

  1. 1.
    Remove all of the tools from the work area.
  2. 2.

    WARNING

    Energized Machine

    Can cause serious injury.

    1. The machine must be fully energized and the engine must be switched on to complete this procedure.

    2. Be careful around moving parts and pinch points.

    Inform the supervisor, lead hand, and all other persons concerned of the intent to restart the machine for testing purposes.

    NOTE

    Make sure that all personnel and bystanders are clear of the machine before start-up.

    Remove the safety locks and tags from the machine in accordance with the site-specific procedures.
  4. 4.
    Set the battery isolation switch to the ON position.
  5. 5.

    WARNING

    Accidental Movements

    Can cause serious injury or death.

    1. Make sure that no one is at danger or hazard zone before you start or operate the machine.

    WARNING

    Risk of Hearing Damage

    Loud noise can cause hearing damage to personnel.

    1. Always use approved hearing protection.

    Start the engine.

    Let the engine operate for few minutes.
  7. 7.
    Set the feed assembly in the vertical position and make sure that the bottom end of the feed assembly is on the ground (Figures 25A, 25B, and 25C).

    Set the drill or tram switch to the drilling position.
  9. 9.
    Load the compressor.
  10. 10.
    Set the dust collector switch to the ON position.
  11. 11.
    Do a check for abnormal sound.
  12. 12.
    Test the suction function of the dust collector.
  13. 13.
    Stop the compressor.
  14. 14.
    Stop the machine.
  15. 15.
    Attach safety locks and tags to the machine in accordance with the site-specific procedures.
  16. 16.
    Do an oil leak check. Repair the leaks, if observed.
