Installing the Boom Extension Cylinder

Prepare and Position the Machine

  1. 1.
    Make sure that the machine is isolated and, if necessary, use the battery isolation switch to isolate the machine.

Lifting and Installation

  1. 1.

    WARNING

    Crushing Hazard

    Can cause personal injury.

    1. Lifting equipment must be adequately sized, have the correct lifting capacity, and be in good condition.

    2. Be careful when you lift heavy components.

    Attach an approved lifting device to the boom extension cylinder.
  2. 2.

    WARNING

    Heavy Components

    Lifting the heavy components by hand can cause body or muscle strains.

    1. Position the body accordingly to support the weight of the component.

    Put the boom extension cylinder in position onto the telescope set (Figures 5A, 5B and 5C).

    WARNING

    Pinch Points

    Can cause serious injury.

    1. Keep hands and fingers away from the moving parts during removal and installation of the component.

    2. Put on the applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    Secure the boom extension cylinder as follows:
    1. Alternative step
      For Cabeltec E machine: Insert the screws (Figure 6A, item A) and the lock washers (item B) to secure the boom extension cylinder (item C) to the telescope set.

    2. Alternative step
      For Boltec M, Cabeltec M and Cabeltec LC machine: Insert the screws (Figures 6B, 6C and 6D, item A) to secure the boom extension cylinder (item B) to the telescope set.

  4. 4.
    Torque the boom extension cylinder screws as follows:
    1. Alternative step
      For Cabeltec M and Cabeltec E machine: Torque the screws to 116 Newton meter (86 foot-pounds) dry.
    2. Alternative step
      For Boltec M and Cabeltec LC machine: Torque the screws to 69 Newton meter (51 foot-pounds) dry.
  5. 5.
    Remove the attached lifting device from the boom extension cylinder.
  6. 6.
    Install the telescope set in accordance with the procedure.

    NOTE

    Refer to Telescope Set Removal and Installation.

  7. 7.
    Put a tag onto the isolation switch stating that the boom extension cylinder is replaced.
